After the result of the recent much-publicised referendum in which the UK voted to leave the European Union, much uncertainty has prevailed across the economy, including in the logistics industry.
As a prominent provider of warehouse storage solutions, here at Bis Henderson Space, we believe it’s important that we do everything we can to support our clients during such a time of uncertainty.
Worries about the import and export of goods
One person of a similar mindset is the Chief Executive of the Freight Transport Association (FTA), David Wells, who recently asked to meet Prime Minister Theresa May “at an early opportunity” to discuss how the FTA could help to support the government to get the best result for UK business.
In his letter to May, Wells stated that UK economy strongly relied on the ability to import and export goods, and that it was essential for the government to secure arrangements that protected this ability.
To further support the cause, Wells also sent May the latest copy of the association’s Logistics Report – a once-yearly document offering an overview of the challenges facing the sector.
The report showed evidence that the strong UK economy was likely to lead to increased demand for logistics services – especially with regard to online shopping, which rose by 12.4% in 2014-2015.
Continued single market access among greatest concerns
Naturally, Brexit is a major issue for the FTA’s more than 15,000 members. The association has outlined its main concerns with regard to Brexit as access to the single market and the ability to hire non-UK drivers.
Indeed, in a survey conducted by the FTA, it was found that 64% of its members viewed the short-term prospects for their business in a pessimistic light. On the flip side, only half thought that the UK’s exit from the EU would make things worse in the long term.
What can Bis Henderson Space do to assist your business?

It’s why businesses wanting to make sure that they have sufficient stock of goods may consider the use of additional warehousing facilities on short-term arrangements while the implications of Brexit and any new arrangements are worked through.
