The Oxford-Cambridge Arc is set to create a significant increase in housing for Oxfordshire with approximately one million news homes to be built by 2050. But the overall strategy is not just about delivering growth on housing, it’s about delivering economic growth – with the government viewing the arc as the engine of the UK’s economy. Along with the economy, the aim is to drive new housing growth and new infrastructure delivery.
How will it impact the logistics industry?
To accommodate and fulfil the one million new homes set to be built by 2050 as part of the Oxford-Cambridge arc, a fully operational logistics hub is required, and the M40 corridor is the perfect solution. The M1 motorway has traditionally been the most popular route for modern logistics networks, but due to growing congestion a suitable alternative is needed.
The M40 corridor runs through the ‘heart of the country’ and is a perfect route up from the ports. Although there are parts of the motorway which are protected by the AONB and the Green Belt, there are numerous junctions which would be ideal space for new modern logistics infrastructures to be built on.
